breaking news....
WALGREENS
APPEAL
DENIED.....
NOT allowed to open store at 1280 Stratfield Road...
Bridgeport Superior Court Judge David Tobin writes,
"The plaintiff has failed to establish, either in the record or by its evidence, that Fairfield's ZEO made any decision which could be appealed to by the ZBA. The court finds the motion to dismiss has merit and accordingly, that motion is granted and the plaintiff's appeal from the decision of the ZBA is dismissed."
AND
"The record would not support the plaintiff's claim that the TPZC abused its discretion in its determination that the plaintiff's proposed use of the Site constituted a change in use......"
AND
"The conclusion reached by the TPZC that the use proposed by the plaintiff for the Site is not permitted in the Neighborhood Designed Business Zone is amply supported by the Regulations and by the record. Accordingly, the plaintiff's appeal from the decision of the TPZC is dismissed. "

WALGREENS = BLIGHT

August 2008

As we await our case in Bridgeport court, Walgreens disregards their property, and their concern for the surrounding neighborhood. Visible wires and metal beams hang from the ceiling, windows are partially soaped over, paint is peeling from the side of the building. Fairfield does not need, or want, this type of business gracing our town.

The Lost Supermarket: A Breed In Need of Replenishment (May 5, 2008)
A recent New York Times article highlighted how "a continuing decline in the number of neighborhood supermarkets has made it harder for millions of New Yorkers to find fresh and affordable food within walking distance of their homes."
"...In some cases, the old storefronts have been converted to drug stores that stand to make money coming and going- first selling processed foods and sodas, then selling medicines for illnesses that could have been prevented by a better diet."
